Removal of the Old Window
Before installation, carefully remove the old window without damaging the frame or insulation. The opening must then be cleared of debris, dust, and old foam.
Measurement and Size Selection
The window should be smaller than the opening by a few centimeters on each side to allow for filling and adjustment. A gap that is too small will hinder proper sealing, while one that is too large will weaken the structure.
Frame Installation
The frame is secured to the wall with expansion anchors or screws. The frame must be perfectly level and plumb, which is verified with a spirit level. Errors at this stage can cause issues with opening and closing the sash.
Sealing – The 3-Layer Principle
Proper sealing consists of three layers: the outer (vapor-permeable tape), the middle (polyurethane foam), and the inner (vapor-tight butyl tape). Omitting any layer can lead to moisture and mold.
Hardware Adjustment
After installing the window, adjust the hardware so that the sash closes evenly around the entire perimeter. A properly adjusted window does not allow air infiltration and opens easily.
